Hi, I’m Danielle.

therapy for Chronic Illness and DBT

Hi I’m Danielle,

My name is Danielle Bourgeon and I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) as well a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). Graduating with my Master’s of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Massachusetts Boston, I have specialized training in working with individuals with chronic illness, disabilities (both physical and psychiatric), caregivers and marginalized individuals of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities in addition to mental health and trauma.

I collaborate with my clients to work through challenges with compassion and curiosity from the lens of their existing strengths and resilience. Autonomy and unconditional positive regard are cornerstones of my therapeutic approach. I have training in Gestalt, Person-Centered, Motivational Interviewing, Feminist Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Solutions-Focused Brief Therapy. Set firm in trauma informed care, I tailor my approach to clients so that is it as unique as they are.

Training combined with lived experience as someone with a chronic illness and disability, I have a foundational understanding on some of the challenges that face individuals with chronic illness as well as the difficulties facing caregivers. Whether newly diagnosed or living with a chronic illness for years, it is important to acknowledge the added challenges of this and remember this is only one facet of who someone is – a person is more than a diagnosis and more than just a caregiver.

Trauma may seem at first glance not related to chronic illness, but research has shown a significant correlation between the two. I work with clients with trauma and dissociation to gain insights into themselves, work through it, and embrace who they are. This can feel like a scary step to take or maybe even impossible; I support my clients through this process through trauma-informed care, evidence-based practices, skill building, and the emotional support of the therapeutic relationship.

You’ve been through a lot, and I’d be honored to walk with you through this journey. If you have any questions or would like to set up a complimentary call to see if we are a good fit, please reach out. I see clients primarily in the Philadelphia location, but I do see clients in Ardmore and virtually as well.
