Hi, Iām Christine.
My name is Christine Nelson and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I graduated from Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research in 2018 and have been honored to work with individuals on their healing journeys since then. I bring a trauma informed approach to my work and hold advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Additionally I hold clinical certification through The National Association of Dual Diagnosis specializing in providing psychotherapy to individuals who have Intellectual/developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health conditions.
My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, single event and complex trauma, caregiver-child conflict, caregiver-child attachment, child behavioral challenges, neurodivergence and impact of a disability on a family. I work with children as young as four as well as individuals across the life span.
As someone who has the lived experience of being a child with anxiety and OCD I can empathize with the sheer strength your child displays to navigate life and the mental and emotional toll that caring for a highly distressed child takes on a caregiver.
I utilize Mindfulness Based Play Family Therapy which is a combination of talk and play therapy to resolve conflict, manage challenging behavior, teach strategies, heal trauma and strengthen attachment between caregiver(s) and the child. I also use Sand Tray, EMDR, and developmentally adapted cognitive behavioral therapy interventions to support your child's healing with your active and integral participation in the therapy process. You are your child's expert, I just have the tools that you may not have tried before.
When working with adults I utilize CBT, EMDR, Parts Work, and Somatic interventions to support your behavioral health goals. I view our work together as a partnership that works at the pace best suited to you. I endeavor to create a space where you are able to speak freely without fear of judgement, can assert your wants and needs, and feel unconditional support from me. I value humor, especially in the therapy process, and seek to bring warmth and compassion. I recognize the courage it takes to explore therapy and know this can be a nerve-wracking process to start. I encourage you to take that first hard step and reach out.
I welcome questions to see if I may be a fit in guiding you toward your goals. I am currently accepting clients at the Ardmore and Malvern locations and offer virtual therapy if this is a fit for you based on your treatment needs and goals.ā
